For the first time in the 2017-2018 season, Jose Mourinho tested Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic side by side in attack.
Ibrahimovic did not show much against Burnley on the evening of December 26.
`It can be considered a test, but it’s best that it shouldn’t happen again, under any circumstances,` Sports Mail commented on the performance of Man Utd’s attacking duo.
Mourinho has been planning to let Ibrahimovic play in attack since recruiting Lukaku, and let the former Inter player play this position when coming from the bench a few matches ago.
`Part of Mourinho’s desire is to improve his finishing ability after the draw with Leicester City. He wants to have two strikers capable of delivering the finishing blow on the field at the same time,` the British daily analyzed.
Lukaku and Ibrahimovic each had only one shot in the match against Burnley.
Ibrahimovic injured his knee ligaments at the end of April. He was expected to only be able to return in early 2018, but miraculously recovered, and played since November 2017.
`The experiment of combining Lukaku and Ibrahimovic is not necessary at this time. Man Utd’s passes often do not pass through Ibrahimovic’s feet. It seems that he has not found his sharpness since returning from injury.
Man Utd’s number 10 is still used to moving freely, like the way he always plays when playing highest.
