Blockade of the Central Tropical Hospital

Hanoi City Chairman Chu Ngoc Anh talked about the blockade of the Central Tropical Diseases Hospital.

At 2:00 p.m. on May 5, Hanoi City Chairman Chu Ngoc Anh said the quarantine aims to quickly control the epidemic, ensure the safety of frontline medical staff and prevent the spread to society.

`Quarantine means being `indisposed` for all doctors, patients as well as the patient’s family members. At the same time, ensuring that in the blockaded area, doctors can still do their best medical examination and treatment work.

The city will work with the Ministry of Health to provide necessities, supplies, equipment and ensure conditions for the Central Tropical Diseases Hospital.

Hanoi President Chu Ngoc Anh and his delegation inspected the hospital on the afternoon of May 5.

The decision to blockade was made nearly a day after Hanoi discovered a Covid-19 case in a male doctor working at this hospital.

On the night of May 4, the government quarantined the male doctor’s residence in Ngoc Khanh ward (Ba Dinh district).

By the afternoon of May 5, out of more than 800 samples taken at the hospital, more than 300 samples had results with 14 positive cases, including two medical staff, 8 patients treated for other diseases in the hospital, 4

All employees, workers, students, patients and patients’ families at Giai Phong and Dong Anh facilities must take test samples and be quarantined at the hospital from May 5.

Talking about patient treatment arrangements after the hospital’s blockade, Ms. Tran Thi Nhi Ha, Director of the Hanoi Department of Health, said this is a front-line facility in receiving and treating positive cases.

The Central Tropical Diseases Hospital is the front line for treating Covid-19 patients, in charge of patients in the Northern provinces since the pandemic appeared early last year.

Hanoi currently records 5 cases of community infection and is zoning out to suppress the epidemic in some areas.
