`Night of Howling Gibbons` (scriptwriter Xuyen Lam, director Chanh Truc) is one of the few plays on stage 5B that portrays horror, using the tactic of `scaring` the audience.
Right from the beginning of the play, the image of a hunchbacked old man (Viet Anh Meritorious Artist) holding a woolen doll in a ruined villa brings a creepy atmosphere.
Hung Thuan (left) plays the role of a pitiful hunchback on stage.
In addition to the relationships between husband and wife, mother and child, lover, master and servant… the above characters bond through the character of a private detective (played by Chanh Truc).
Author Xuyen Lam once had success on the Phu Nhuan stage with the script The Ghost Wife – a play that caused record ticket fever in the theater industry of Ho Chi Minh City.
Meritorious Artists My Uyen (left) and Huu Quoc.
However, the highlight of the play is not the episode that `scares` the audience.
Actress My Uyen portrayed the extreme pain of an adulterous woman who had to pay the price for lost family happiness.
In contrast to My Uyen’s character, the character played by Trang Tran brings her own color.
An indispensable highlight in the play is the role of the disabled old woman played by Le Thien.
Hung Thuan’s role as a hunchback brings many emotions of honesty and sincerity.
Trang Tran (right) brings interesting colors to the play through her humorous acting.
Up to now, 5B Vo Van Tan Drama Theater (Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association) has been a performance venue for theatrical works of diverse genres.
