Venus lost to Kerber after two sets with the same score of 4-6 and could not play in the first Grand Slam final since 2009.

Venus Williams reached the Wimbledon final eight times between 2000 and 2009. She only missed the championship match in 2006. In those eight finals, five times her opponent was Serena and Venus won twice.

In the first five games of the semi-final between Kerber and Venus Williams, neither player could hold their serve.
