Venus lost to Kerber after two sets with the same score of 4-6 and could not play in the first Grand Slam final since 2009.
Venus Williams reached the Wimbledon final eight times between 2000 and 2009. She only missed the championship match in 2006. In those eight finals, five times her opponent was Serena and Venus won twice.
In the first five games of the semi-final between Kerber and Venus Williams, neither player could hold their serve.
Kerber defeated both Williams sisters this year.
The two players each scored another break point and pushed the match to 5-3 in favor of Kerber.
The first set had seven break-points scored, but the second set had only one.
This is the second time the German tennis player has appeared in a Grand Slam final.
It took Serena only 49 minutes to win the semi-final.
Serena, once again, faces the opportunity to equal legendary Steffi Graf’s record of 22 Grand Slam titles in the Open era.
