According to statistics from the Ministry of Health, by the afternoon of August 14, more than 4,300 Covid-19 patients in Ho Chi Minh City died (out of a total of 5,437 cases nationwide).

`The Delta strain causes many unexpected developments in patients,` Deputy Minister Nguyen Truong Son (Head of the special standing section of the Ministry of Health supporting the fight against epidemics in Ho Chi Minh City) told VnExpress about the many causes.

Currently, the city treats 32,608 patients;

Another reason for high F0 mortality, according to Mr. Son, is overcrowding at collection and treatment facilities due to the large number of new diseases – about 3,000 cases per day.

Doctors at the Covid-19 Resuscitation Hospital are treating serious and critically ill patients.

According to Deputy Minister Son, in the 5-storey tower treatment model Ho Chi Minh City is implementing, the death rate on the upper floors accounts for about 20%.

To reduce the number of F0 deaths, the health sector must take measures to add more resources and expand facilities with the goal that all units participating in Covid-19 treatment must receive emergency F0.

`It is also necessary to prepare recently introduced antiviral drugs such as Remdesivir. It is expected that when this drug arrives in large quantities, the Ministry of Health will distribute it to all hospital levels to treat patients most effectively.`

Regarding human resources, Mr. Son said, the Ministry of Health has almost mobilized the maximum from all provinces, central hospitals, and the best experts to the southern provinces.

`An important solution to control the epidemic and reduce the number of severe cases and deaths is that by the end of August, Ho Chi Minh City must achieve vaccination results for at least 70% of people over 18 years old, as planned,`

Strategy to reduce F0 deaths in Ho Chi Minh City

By August 14, Ho Chi Minh City recorded more than 144,700 cases of infection in all 22 districts.

In the context of continuously increasing F0 numbers and high death rates, Deputy Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Phan Van Mai said that in the next 30 days, the city will focus on treatment strategies based on two pillars.

The first is to treat F0 at home and in the community.

Two important contents in this strategy are the quick response of grassroots healthcare in cases of severe progression, and the systematization of technology applications connecting F0 at home with treatment floors.

The second pillar is F0 treatment at the hospital.

For more information, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Duong Anh Duc said that to reduce deaths, the city will classify F0 more effectively at all 5 floors in the treatment system.

`The prerequisite right now is to reduce severe F0 cases on the 2nd and 3rd floors,` Mr. Duc said, adding that the city has upgraded temporary hospitals on the 2nd floor to the 3rd floor to mobilize resources.

Supported by the Ministry of Health, localities, and frontline hospitals across the country, Ho Chi Minh City has put into operation 4 Intensive Care Centers (ICU) with a capacity of 1,750 beds.
